This time on “Real Personal Finance,” we’re digging a little deeper to look at how Meg and Scott help clients define their values and goals, and how those values and goals help drive their financial planning efforts.

Most people come to a financial advisor thinking that they’re just going to figure out how to invest and save for the future, and many advisors work that way. But, as we explore in this episode, that approach often misses the mark. We start by identifying what each client’s definition of a successful life looks like - spoiler alert, no two clients are the same.

All too often, we get caught up in the culture of the moment and start chasing someone else’s vision of success. When was the last time you sat down and thought about what you really wanted out of life? If it’s been a while, this episode is a great place to start.

What does your most fulfilled life look like? Maybe you want more time with your kids. Maybe you want to read all the greatest novels in the world. Maybe you want to pick up the saxophone again. Discovering your definition takes time, silence, and a partner to walk through the exercise with you.

Using three questions from the Kinder Institute of Life Planning, Meg and Scott share how they walk clients through an exercise that helps them get to the core of what their ideal life will look like. Listen in and be sure to download your Goals for Life Worksheet so you can walk through the exercise yourself!
