Education, Updates, and Resources
A new format for the blog.
We believe one of our key roles is to help educate you about financial topics in plain english. Expect to see content from Stone Steps or links to resources that we find helpful to explain core financial planning concepts.
A little over a year ago, Scott created a podcast called Real Personal Finance with another local advisor, James Conole. The podcast answers one personal finance question a week in plain english. Our hope is that it will serve as a space to educate the public at large about finance so they can make better choices in their own financial lives. A recent episode is about where to invest funds once a 401k / 403b is maxed out for the year. You can listen here, we will also include a link to the podcast below in future newsletters.
Stone Steps Team Updates
One of the core values for Stone Steps clients and employees is Enjoy! We truly enjoy serving you while we live into our own visions of a great life. This will be a space for us to share updates from the team about what is going on in their lives.
I find it hard to believe, but my son, Daxton, turned two last week! He is such a joy and we love getting to learn who he is a little more each and every day. His favorite word this week is baseball …. sounds like bayball. He loves watching the game, Go Cubs! and is trying to play just like his big brother.
Another core value at Stone Steps is Lifelong Learning. To that end, we will share resources that we have discovered or others have shared with us that we found helpful in the hopes that you will too.
Deep Work by Cal Newport
I read Deep Work last month and am reading it again with a notebook so I can put its insights into action. The premise of Deep Work is: “The ability to perform deep work is becoming increasingly rare at exactly the same time it is becoming increasingly valuable in our economy. As a consequence, the few who cultivate this skill, and then make it their core, will thrive.”
I couldn’t agree more. Deep Work > Shallow Work. But we have culture and society making it difficult to do deep work. This book provides insights on how bring deep work into your life.
Until next time.
